Yesterday I happened to see the Vijay Awards, aired by Star Vijay Channel…Though there were many a good things to note, that they honored even the guys behind the screen, the award for best poet in Tamil for year 2008 took my attention…
Main contenders were Thamarai for Varanamayiram and Vaali for Dasavatharam…
I had a feeling that it would eventually go to Vaali, owing to his experience and word-play he had done in “kallai mattum kandal kadavul theriyathu”, I was a bit surprised to see Thamarai bagging the award.
Commonsense told me that Vaali had penned one song in Dasavatharam, which had been nominated. On the other hand, Thamarai had penned all the songs in VA and many were nominated for Best male and female singer’s category…Hariharan eventually won it for “Nenjukkul Peithidum Maamazhai”.
On a retrospective, what is cine music? Which soothes you when you need some stress buster…Gives you an instant happiness on hearing…far better if melodious…when heard in rainy season, should make you feel float in clouds :)
There were few lines in VA which were awe-inspiring in that it caught immediate attention…some lyrics which I enjoyed, for you also to appreciate :)

Though they were only samples of Thamarai’s work, there were too many last year…Hope this wonder ride of Tamil poets continues…
EOD, as the taste and expectations of people are on a rise, there are poets to supplement :)
Thamarai has written many good, decent songs. I belive some chemistry lies in this trio - Gautham, Harris, Thamarai.

Sreenivasan sei.. indha vishnudasan naan ( self explanatory).
Naatil undu aayiram .. raja rajar dhaan..
rajanukkku rajan indha rangarajan dhaan. ( vaali's real name is rangarajan).
