This incident happened a month ago to one of my best introvert friends, whom I feel, syncs up perfectly with me in all range of interests, profession and family as well. Apologies to him, since I write it without his permission :)...but da, i have maintained anonymity :)
His parents are looking for a girl for marriage for sometime now and he is in an Adjacent state. He doesn't visit his native often, unlike me ,traveling every week to Chennai. One girl proposed to him by his parents was a MBA grad, from a very descent college in Tamil Nadu. Though he wanted a perfect homemaker, he thought of giving a fair trial, but the girl was very adamant in sticking to her current job and wanted him to travel every week to meet her in Chennai :) issue brew up here, since he didn't want to travel every week, and she insisted on that (I was ready to get her a job in same place of him, through my contacts, just for the cause of my frnd, which she dutifully rejected). The alliance broke off, even before it was formulated...He went back to his office with a peaceful mind, thinking this trouble didn't come up after marriage - Positive thinker he is!
Leaving beyond what had happened in a family...the question which came to my mind was - where is the concept of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (Entire world is a single family) ? Though there are multiple interpretations to that, the mainly depicted meaning in India is - 'happy, prosperous, healthy and wealthy family'...
The underlying phenomena mainly is - a family...people living together in harmony, peace and happiness...Is it really cracking away in India just like western world?
I felt exactly the same...the freedom which comes through education and the courage which we adorn...really makes us think great of ourselves and a question peeps up is - why should I listen to this guy? Education teaches us to deal with incidents in business and in case of financial crisis...but no where you find dealing with your wife / husband :)
Though I have read lot of blogs and mails on this topic...really I felt knowing my friend's family ...She has missed him!...God Only Knows - both might have been blessed with a better life than being a couple, but the sight of insensible adamancy of the girl is really pitiful...
With profound grief on plight of our society :) !
